This may not be a post DIRECTLY about me, but it’s has information that has affected me in a positive way, and I want to share this with people.

I got some of this information off a TV show I was watching, called Dr. Oz. This show is all about making HEALTHY CHOICES, and how you are FINE just the way you are. It you are healthy, you are beautiful.

When asked what their ideal body shape would be, most women respond types 1, 2, or 3. However, men prefer body shapes in the 5, 6 or 7 area. Women also often view their body types as a higher number than their partners perceive them.

When looking at this photo, each and every number is based on a HEALTHY WOMAN. Sure, 9 may be bigger than 1, but as long as they are healthy, what is so wrong with that? We are all built differently, some of us have bigger bones and therefore need more muscles and fat to protect our bodies.

If you think you need to lose weight, then fine, start making healthier choices. Starving yourself will only lead to more problems. You deny your body nutrients it needs to be healthy. You force your body to slow down in order to preserve energy. When you force your body to slow down, you put yourself at very serious risks. Here are a few of many risks you take when starving yourself.

  • Your heart rate becomes slower, causing lower blood pressure. This means that the heart, brain, and other parts of the body do not get enough blood.
  • Loss of muscle tone throughout your body.
  • Servere dehydration, which can result in kidney failure.
  • Growth of a downy layer of hair called lanugo  all over the body, including the fact. This happens because your body is trying to stay warm.
  • Changes in your bones. They lose density. This means your bones can then break more easily.
  • Electrolyte imbalance. Electrolytes are salts in the body that conduct electricity and are found in the body, fluid, tissue, and blood. Proper balance is essential for muscle coordination, heart function, fluid absorption and excretion, nerve function, and concentration.
  • Weakened immune system, resulting in becoming ill more frequently, with the illness lasting longer than normal because your body is too weak to fight the infection off.
  • Possible infertility.
  • Tired, irritable, anxious, and restless.
  • Depression.
  • Death.

When food intake ceases, the body enters the starvation response. This will actually make it more difficult for you to burn calories. While you may enjoy a slight, short-term weight loss, your body will begin to automatically slow down its metabolism as a way of preserving itself. Our organs and tissues need a regular supply of glucose to function properly and survive.

 All of this, just to be “beautiful”? No, this is not beauty. Here are a few reasons why eating healthy is positive for you.

  • Live longer. In a recent evaluation of 20,000 people, it was founf that people who exercise regularly, and consume a nutritious diet can tack and additional 14 years onto their life expectancy.
  • More energy. Eating well stimulates the release of feel-good endorphins that not only make your feel better but also up your energy levels. Think about it, would you be able to drive your car without any gas? Would your fire be able to burn without oxygen?
  • Avoid disease/illness. A healthy diet can help reduce free radicals as well as promote the release of toxins associated with disease and infections.
  • Reduced risk of diabetes. 
  • Promotes healthy cholesterol levels, which has an important effect on your cardiovascular system, reducing your personal risk for heart attack and stroke.
  • Increased confidence. When your body feels good, it carries over and translates into the way you present yourself.
  • Improve the appearance of your skin, teeth, nails, and gives you a natural glow.
  • Better sex. A healthy diet can help boost circulation, and provide you with the energy you need for your extra-curricular activities.

Please, please, please choose the healthy way of life. Don’t deny your body what it needs to survive. Be appreciative you have the body you do. You don’t have to be skinny to get a boyfriend, you need to love yourself for exactly the way you are. Love yourself first.

Whale or Mermaid?

Recently, in a large city in France, a poster featuring a young, thin and tan woman appeared in the window of a gym. It said, “This summer, do you want to be a mermaid or a whale?”

A middle-aged woman, whose physical characteristics did not match those of the woman on the poster, responded publicly to the question posed by the gym.

To Whom It May Concern,

Whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, sea lions, curious humans.) They have an active sex life, get pregnant and have adorable baby whales. They have a wonderful time with dolphins stuffing themselves with shrimp. They play and swim in the seas, seeing wonderful places like Patagonia , the Bering Sea and the coral reefs of Polynesia . Whales are wonderful singers and have even recorded CDs. They are incredible creatures and virtually have no predators other than humans. They are loved, protected and admired by almost everyone in the world.

Mermaids don’t exist. If they did exist, they would be lining up outside the offices of Argentinean psychoanalysts due to identity crisis. Fish or human?

They don’t have a sex life because they kill men who get close to them, not to mention how could they have sex? Just look at them … where is IT?

Therefore, they don’t have kids either. Not to mention, who wants to get close to a girl who smells like a fish store?

The choice is perfectly clear to me: I want to be a whale.

P.S. We are in an age when media puts into our heads the idea that only skinny people are beautiful, but I prefer to enjoy an ice cream with my kids, a good dinner with a man who makes me shiver, and a piece of chocolate with my friends. With time, we gain weight because we accumulate so much information and wisdom in our heads that when there is no more room, it distributes out to the rest of our bodies. So we aren’t heavy, we are enormously cultured, educated and happy. Beginning today, when I look at my butt in the mirror I will think, ¨Good grief, look how smart I am!¨
